On July 13, 2008 Nationals fans were invited to donate $5 the Foundation via text messaging - it was the first time that text-to-give technology was used at a Major League Baseball game! The proceeds were donated to Children's National Medical Center in DC where the funds will be used toward the creation of a new Pediatric Diabetes Care Complex.
Several young people with diabetes were guests of the Nationals, and participated in pre-game activities on the field. The Nationals also welcomed Dr. Fran Cogen and several other members of the Children's distinguished staff, including mascot Dr. Bear! Text-to-Give service was provided by the non-profit Mobile Giving Foundation.
