TEXAS: Named the first assistant pitching coach in Rangers history on November 6, 2017, and will be in his first season on the Rangers staff…now working with pitching coach Doug Brocail, who was in the Tigers bullpen in 1999-2000 when Warthen was Detroit's pitching coach…Rangers will be the 8th different organization in which he has coached, also DET, LAD, NYM, PHI, PIT, SD, and SEA.

METS: Joins the Rangers after having served as Mets pitching coach for over 9 1/2 seasons from 6/17/08 through the end of 2017…was part of New York's back-to-back playoff clubs in 2015-16, ranking in the league's top four in ERA in both seasons, including the National League pennant-winner in 2015…over a 4-year span from 2013-16, Mets ranked 5th in majors with a combined 3.56 team ERA…team's 3.43 ERA in 2015 was Mets' lowest in 25 years (lower 3.43 in 1990)… Warthen was on staff when R.A. Dickey won the N.L. Cy Young Award in 2012, and also for Jacob deGrom's N.L. Rookie of the Year Award in 2014.

COACHING CAREER: Re-joined the Mets organization in 2008 as pitching coach for New Orleans (AAA) before his midseason promotion, this after spending 2006-07 as bullpen coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers under Grady Little… had been in Mets system from 2003-05 as pitching coach for Triple-A Norfolk (2004-05) and High-A St. Lucie (2003), a club that won the Florida State League championship…has served as pitching coach for Detroit (1999-2002), San Diego (1996- 97), and Seattle (1992), and was also Mariners bullpen coach in 1991…was the Padres Minor League pitching instructor in 1993 and 1995, and spent 1994 at club's Triple-A Las Vegas affiliate as pitching coach…returned to professional baseball as the Phillies roving Minor League pitching instructor from 1984-86 before serving as a pitching coach in Seattle's Minor League system from 1987-90…was in private business in 1983 after being a player/coach in the Pirates organization in 1981-82.

PLAYING CAREER: Pitched in the Major Leagues from 1975-1978 with the Montreal Expos, Philadelphia Phillies and Houston Astros…combined to go 12-21 with a 4.31 ERA in 83 games/41 starts…was teammates with 5 different Hall of Famers, playing with all 5 in 1977: Steve Carlton, Gary Carter, Andre Dawson, Tony Perez, and Mike Schmidt…made his Major League debut as a 22-year-old on 5/18/75 with the Expos vs. Cincinnati at Jarry Park Stadium, facing a Big Red Machine squad that would go on to win the first of back-to-back World Series titles…retired Pete Rose on a fly ball to end a scoreless 8th inning in his debut, and Rose was 2-for-14 career vs. Warthen…first ML win came 5/31/75 vs. SF, recording final out in the 9th ahead of a walkoff HR by Mike Jorgensen…first hit was 6/24/75 vs. CHC, RBI single off Bill Bonham, the only RBI of his career…in start on 8/13/75 vs. SF (ND, 10.1 IP, 3 R-ER), matched up with Giants starter John Montefusco as the pair each posted 10.0 scoreless innings before Giants eventually won in 11 frames…recorded lone career CG shutout on 9/21/76 vs. NYM (2-hitter), besting opposing starter Jerry Koosman in a year in which Koosman would finish 2nd in Cy Young voting…last ML appearance was start with Houston on 9/29/78 vs. SF at the Astrodome.

AMATEUR: Was selected in the 2nd round of the 1971 Amateur Draft by the Montreal Expos out of Omaha (NE) North High School…the former quarterback turned down football scholarship offers from Nebraska, USC, UCLA, Michigan and Northwestern to pursue professional baseball.

PERSONAL: Daniel Dean Warthen…married to Andrea on 9/13/81 and the couple has one daughter, Britt.
