The 2011 Mets Fantasy Camp came to an end on January 16. The Camp was highly competitive as campers enjoyed the experience of a lifetime down in Port St. Lucie. The Finding Nemos defeated the Cycle in a thrilling championship game.
Managed by former Met "Super" Joe McEwing, with help from 1986 Mets Randy Niemann and former Mets Coach Al LeBoeuf, the Finding Nemos recovered from two early defeats to climb up from the 8th seed to win the Fantasy Camp World Series. Led by veteran pitcher and Tom Seaver Award Winner David Reale, the Finding Nemos finished camp on a 5-game winning streak. Stellar defensive play by infielders Bobby Whelan, Bob Wasp and Wayne Clark and outfielders Andrew Reale and Jeffrey Culpepper kept the Finding Nemos in every game. Timely hitting by Todd Severson and Tom Formicola drove in all the winning runs they needed.
The inspiration for the Finding Nemos came from their teammate Jim Forde, who broke his leg only a few months before camp. Jim played every game of camp including spending some time at catcher and 8 innings on the mound. With a Super Bowl-winning punter on their team, Jim and the rest of the Finding Nemos knew that even if his team got in trouble at least they could always punt.
We hope that everyone who came to the 2011 Mets Fantasy Camp had a great experience and we look forward to seeing you all at camp again soon!
