Mets victorious in opener
With the scored tie at 3 in the eighth inning and the bases loaded, Moises Alou delivered a clutch two-run single to help the Mets punch out the Pirates in the opener. Carlos Beltran, hitting in the cleanup spot, homered, doubled and scored two runs.

Despite getting an awesome effort from Ian Snell, who struck out seven over seven innings, the Pirates were unable to get past the Mets in the opener. Freddy Sanchez and Jose Castillo each had two hits in the ballgame, and Nate McLouth hit his sixth homer of the year in the fourth.
