Left-handed starter Oliver Perez plated Pittsburgh's first run of the season with an RBI single in the second inning, and Humberto Cota hit a bases-loaded single in the sixth, but it wasn't enough to beat the Brewers in the season opener at Miller Park. Perez held Milwaukee to one run in 5 1/3 innings.
J.J. Hardy hit a towering solo shot in the first inning of the season opener against the Pirates, and Jeff Cirillo's two-run single in the seventh gave Milwaukee a one-run lead. Carlos Lee went deep with a massive two-run shot in the eighth to seal the deal.
