Jorge Posada hit a pair of three-run home runs and Hideki Matsui and Tony Clark also homered to pace New York. Matsui finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs, winning the game's MVP award.

Devil Rays starter Jeremi Gonzalez pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed five runs. The Rays scored first in the first inning when Carl Crawford singled, stole second and scored on an Aubrey Huff single.
