Mets sign RHP Brandon Lyon

FLUSHING, N.Y., February 8, 2013 – The New York Mets today announced the club signed righthanded pitcher Brandon Lyon to a one-year contract.
Lyon, 33, started last season with Houston before a July 20 trade to Toronto. The 6-1, 200-pound native of Salt Lake City, UT, combined to appear in 67 games out of the bullpen, going 4-2 with a 3.10 ERA (21 earned runs/61.0 innings) and one save. He struck out better than a batter per inning on the season, fanning 63 in 61.0 innings.
Originally selected out of Dixie Junior College (UT) in the 14th round of the 1999 Free-Agent Player Draft by Toronto, Lyon made his major league debut in 2001 with the Blue Jays. Over 11 major league seasons with Toronto, Boston, Arizona, Detroit and Houston, Lyon owns a 40-45 record, 79 saves and a 4.12 ERA (296 earned runs/647.0 innings) in 535 games, 21 starts. He has two 20-save seasons: 26 with Arizona in 2008 and 20 with Houston in 2010.
