Mets sign Craig Hansen
FLUSHING, N.Y., July 24, 2012 – The New York Mets today announced the team signed righthanded pitcher Craig Hansen to a minor league contract that runs through next season. The former first-round pick will report to Port St. Lucie, FL, to begin a throwing program.
Hansen, 28, last pitched professionally during 2010 in Pittsburgh’s minor league system at Bradenton (A) of the Florida State League and Altoona (AA) of the Eastern League. The 6-6, 230-pound native of Glen Cove, NY, last appeared in the majors for Pittsburgh in 2009, not receiving a decision in five games and compiling a 5.68 ERA (four earned runs/6.1 innings).
Originally drafted by Boston 26th overall in 2005 out of St. John’s University, the righthander made his major league debut that year. Over parts of five major league seasons, Hansen went 4-9 with a 6.34 ERA (66 earned runs/93.2 innings) in 95 games.
