Jason Bay's second grand slam of the season gave the Mets their second National League Player of the Week in as many weeks. Third baseman David Wright was honored last week. Bay, 32, tied for the Major League lead in hits (13), total bases (24) and doubles (five). He produced a .481/.500/.889 batting/on-base/slugging line last week, driving in an NL-high 10 runs. Bay's biggest hit of the week came Thursday, when he hit his fourth career grand slam in the opener of a doubleheader against the Braves at Citi Field. That was part of a memorable twin bill for Bay, who went 3-for-6 with five RBIs, though the Mets were swept. Bay continued to swing a hot bat through the weekend, going 2-for-4 on both Friday and Saturday against the Cubs. After a hit on Sunday, Bay had a 10-game hitting streak. This is Bay's fifth career Player of the Week award, with the others all coming with the Pirates.
