Painless, Maine expects to make next start

"I feel awful [about his inability to complete the fourth inning] and very frustrated," said Maine. "It's kinda hard to wrap my mind around this."
He said he doesn't know how to prevent the symptoms, because he has no idea how they developed. He experienced the same problem in July 2008, and he made his next scheduled start.
Blanco stealing more than he's allowing
NEW YORK -- Henry Blanco threw out Atlanta's Martin Prado trying to steal second base in the seventh inning of Saturday's 3-1 win, the fourth caught stealing in eight tries for Mets catchers this season.
Blanco has thrown out four of four would-be basestealers. He also stole second base in the fifth inning, his first steal since July 28, 2001. He has five steals in 15 career attempts.
"I want one more before I retire," he said.
Blanco had gone 567 games in between stolen bases.

The victory was the sixth in what became an 11-game streak. ... On this date in 2000, Matt Franco singled against Terry Adams with one out in the ninth inning to score Jon Nunnally and end the Mets' 1-0 victory against the Dodgers at Shea Stadium. ... Four years later, Kerry Wood pitched seven innings in the Cubs' 4-0 victory over Tyler Yates and the Mets at Wrigley Field.
On this date in 2006, a three-run home run by Moises Alou off Tom Glavine in the first inning carried the Giants to a 6-2 victory against the Mets in San Francisco. ... A drag bunt basehit by Endy Chavez with two out in the 12th inning produced the decisive run in the Mets' 2-1 victory against the Rockies at Shea on this date in 2007.

When Hisanori Takahashi struck out seven batters in three relief innings Friday, it was the most K's by a Mets reliever since Rick Reed struck out seven in five innings against the Dodgers on April 9, 1997. The club record for relief strikeouts is nine, established by Tug McGraw in four innings against the Padres on Aug. 10, 1971. ... Takahashi produced his first victory and, in his first big league at-bat, first hit Friday night. He became the third Mets player to produce a hit in his first big league at-bat in seven days. Raul Valdes (April 17) and Ike Davis (April 19) preceded him. ... Takahashi and Kenshin Kawakami were the pitchers of record Friday. Japanese pitchers also won and lost in the same game June 19 last season. Kawakami won and Daisuke Matsuzaka lost for the Red Sox. ... With his single in the seventh inning Friday, David Wright moved into a tie with Howard Johnson for eighth place in franchise history with 997 hits. Darryl Strawberry ranks seventh with 1,025 hits. ... Wright has struck out in 10 consecutive games, the longest streak of his career. His strikeouts in that sequence of games is 18. He began Saturday tied for second in the National League with 22 strikeouts, one fewer than Jason Bay.
The Mets have won three successive games for the first time since late July last year. ... Jason Bay had three hits for the first time this season. ... Jeff Francoeur was credited with an assist in the fifth inning when he participated in the 9-4-5-6 double play. He has three assists this season, the most among National League outfielders. ... Frankie Rodriguez has saves in three straight games. He saved four consecutive games in May last year. ... Winning pitcher Manny Acosta gained his first victory since July 16th last season when, as a member of the Braves, he beat the Mets. ... Jon Niese left five runners in scoring position. ... Pedro Feliciano now is third in games pitched among all-time Mets with 377. Tom Seaver (401) and John Franco (695) are ahead of him.
