By Doug Miller / MLB.com
Mets spokesman Ethan Wilson confirmed to The Associated Press that the final standing portion of the original structure, the section 5 ramp, was razed at 11:25 a.m. ET in the shadow of the Mets' $800 million new home, Citi Field, which will open in April.
Shea Stadium opened April 17, 1964, with the Mets falling, 4-3, to the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Mets won the World Series in the ballpark in 1969 and '86.
