The Orioles today announced that they have signed free agent catcher GUILLERMO QUIROZ to a one-year contract for the 2008 season.
Quiroz, 26, has batted .220 (22-100) in 39 major league games over parts of the past four seasons with Toronto, Seattle and Texas. In 2007, he batted .266 in 71 games with Texas' AAA Oklahoma club before the Rangers purchased his contract on September 3. He batted .400 (4-10) in 9 games for the Rangers over the final month of the season.
A right-handed batter, Quiroz originally signed with Toronto as a non-drafted free agent in 1998. He played in 29 games with the Blue Jays 17 games between 2004 and 2005 and one game with Seattle in 2006. He has batted .241 in nine minor league seasons.
Quiroz's signing leaves the Orioles with 37 players on their major league roster.
