The New York Mets today selected the contracts of righthanded pitchers Joe Smith and Aaron Sele and added them to the 25-man roster.
New York also optioned outfielder Ben Johnson and infielder Anderson Hernandez to New Orleans (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League and reassigned infielders Ruben Gotay and Mike Carp, catchers Sandy Alomar, Jr. and Mike DiFelice and righthanded pitcher Lino Urdaneta to minor league camp.
In addition, the Mets outrighted righthanded pitcher Jorge Sosa to New Orleans.
New York will place righthanded pitchers Pedro Martinez, Duaner Sanchez and Juan Padilla along with lefthanded pitcher Dave Williams on the Disabled List prior to the start of the 2007 season.
