Mets sign RHP pitcher Jose Lima

The New York Mets today signed righthanded pitcher Jose Lima to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Lima, 33, went 5-16 with a 6.99 ERA in 32 starts last year for the Kansas City Royals. In 168.2 innings, he allowed 219 hits, 140 runs, 131 earned, with 61 walks and 80 strikeouts.

Jose was 13-5 with a 4.07 ERA to help the Los Angeles Dodgers win the National League West in 2004. In 36 games, 24 starts, he worked 170.1 innings and yielded 178 hits, 81 runs, 77 earned, with 34 walks and 93 strikeouts.

The 6-2, 200-pounder tossed a complete-game, 4-0, five-hit shutout vs. St. Louis in Game Three of the National League Division Series on October 9th.

He is 89-98 with a 5.21 ERA in 344 major league games with the Tigers, Astros, Dodgers and the Royals. In 1,550.0 innings, he's permitted 1,758 hits, 950 runs, 898 earned, with 383 walks and 968 strikeouts.

Lima had a combined 37-18 record with a 3.64 ERA, including a 21-10 mark in 1999 when he was a National League All-Star during 1998-1999 with Houston.
