Anaheim Angels outfielder Vladimir Guerrero, whose efforts last week helped his Club win its first divisional crown since 1986, has been named Bank of America Presents the American League Player of the Week for the week of September 27-October 3. Bank of America, the official bank of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor of the American League and National League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect the bank's long-standing tradition of promoting and recognizing higher standards of accomplishment.

Guerrero, the AL Player of the Month for September, led the AL in seven categories last week: batting average (.560), runs (nine), home runs (six), slugging (1.360), hits (14), on-base percentage (.607) and total bases (34). No other AL player posted more than 18 total bases. Guerrero went 12-for-17 with five home runs and nine RBI as Anaheim won three of four at Texas. In Saturday's critical showdown at Oakland, he hit a game-tying two-run homer, their first runs in the Division-clinching victory.

Other candidates for this week's award were fellow Angel Chone Figgins (.444, 6 R); Boston's Johnny Damon (.350, 2 HR, 12 RBI); Hideki Matsui (.333, 3 HR, 5 RBI) of the New York Yankees; Seattle's Raul Ibañez (.414, 6 2B) and Ichiro Suzuki (.355); and Toronto's Carlos Delgado (.364, 2 HR, 7 RBI).

Pitchers on this week's ballot were Bartolo Colón (2-0, 1.20 ERA, 15.0 IP, 7 H) of the Halos; Mark Buehrle (1-0, 1 CG) of the Chicago White Sox; Cleveland's Cliff Lee (2-0, 2.03); Detroit's Jeremy Bonderman (1-0, 1 SHO) and Gary Knotts (2-0, 1.88); Kansas City's Brian Anderson (1-0, 2.00, 1 CG); Bobby Madritsch (1-0, 1 CG) of the Mariners; Tampa Bay's Rob Bell (1-0, 10.0 IP, 0 ER); and Toronto's David Bush (1-0, 1 SHO).

Tourneau, the world's largest watch store, is proud to award the Bank of America Presents the American League Player of the Week Vladimir Guerrero with a Tourneau luxury Swiss timepiece from its Safari collection.
