NEW YORK -- The Mets on Thursday signed right-handed pitcher Miguel Socolovich to a Minor League contract, inviting him to Spring Training.

Socolovich, 27, posted a 0.79 ERA this season in 11 relief outings with Hiroshima of Japan's Central League, striking out six batters and walking four over 11 1/3 innings. The Venezuelan native appeared in 12 big league games with the Orioles and Cubs in 2012, compiling a 6.06 ERA.

Over seven Minor League seasons split in the Red Sox, White Sox, Orioles and Cubs organizations, Socolovich is 35-24 with a 3.79 ERA.
