Mets recall catcher/outfielder Vinny Rottino from Buffalo; Option RHP Chris Schwinden to Buffalo
The New York Mets today announced the team recalled catcher/outfielder Vinny Rottino from Buffalo (AAA) of the International League and optioned righthanded pitcher Chris Schwinden to the Bisons. Rottino will wear uniform #33 and will be available for tonight's game at Pittsburgh.
Rottino, 32, joins the Mets for the second time this year. He was with the club from May 4-May 11 and went 0-4 in three games. Rottino made one start on May 9 in leftfield.
The 6-1, 215-pounder hit .307 (43-140) with four home runs and 25 RBI in 36 games for the Bisons, including a three-home run game on May 19 vs. Indianapolis. He had a 20-game hitting streak from April 18-May 17, going 26-78 (.333) during the run. Rottino played leftfield, rightfield and catcher for the Bisons after appearing in both the infield and outfield for the Mets during Spring Training.
Rottino appeared in the majors last year with the Marlins, batting .167 (2-12) in eight games. Rottino played in 18 games with the Milwaukee Brewers from 2006-2008.
Schwinden was 0-1 with an 11.25 ERA (10 earned runs/8.0 innings) in two starts for New York. The team recalled the righthander from Buffalo on Sunday.
