Dave Matthews Band to perform at Citi
Musical group will have two shows on July 16, 17
NEW YORK -- The Dave Matthews Band will perform at Citi Field on Friday, July 16, and Saturday, July 17, the Mets and Live Nation announced on Tuesday.
The band will become the second musical act to perform at Citi Field, on the heels of Paul McCartney's three sold-out shows last July. Billy Joel was the last artist to play at Shea Stadium in July 2008, following a tradition that included such acts as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen and The Who.
"We are thrilled that Dave Matthews Band is coming to Citi Field this July for what is becoming our annual summer concert event featuring the top acts in the world," Mets COO Jeff Wilpon said in a statement.
Tickets for the show go on sale to the general public on Friday, Feb. 26 at 10 a.m. ET. Mets season-ticket holders will have access to a two-day presale that will be announced in the coming weeks.
Over the past 18 years, Dave Matthews Band has sold more than 15 million tickets for its concerts and a collective 35 million albums and DVDs. Billboard has named it the top-drawing American band in the world, Pollstar dubbed the group its "Top Act of the Decade" and Spinner named them one of the "Top Artists of the 2000s."
The band has been nominated for "Album of the Year" and "Best Rock Album" at next month's 52nd annual Grammy Awards.
"We pride ourselves on playing at some of the most unique venues in the world," Matthews said in a statement. "We're excited to play at Citi Field and continue the rock-n-roll tradition at the home of the Mets."
