Mets release Takahashi

Left-handed reliever appeared in 28 games in 2009

10/20/09 12:04 PM ET

NEW YORK -- The first player personnel move the Mets have made since the end of their broken season is the removal of left-handed relief pitcher Ken Takahashi. He was released Tuesday.

Takahashi, 40, appeared in 28 games in the 2009 season. He produced an 0-1 record and 2.96 ERA in 27 1/3 innings. He had his moments, good and bad, but overall his performance was mostly unremarkable. He was decidedly more effective against right-handed batters than against lefties.

He had appeared in 18 games for the Mets' Triple-A Buffalo affiliate, making seven starts. He produced a 1-3 record and 2.38 ERA for the Bisons.

The Mets no have one vacancy on their 40-man roster.
