Surgeries go well for two Mets pitchers

Dr. David Altchek, the Mets' medical director, performed successful surgeries Tuesday morning on left-handers Johan Santana and Oliver Perez. In the procedures, Santana had multiple bone fragments removed from his pitching elbow, while Perez had scar tissue removed from the patella tendon of his right knee. The surgeries were performed at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan. Both pitchers will miss the remainder of the season, but are anticipated to be fully recovered for the start of Spring Training next February.Tom Singer is a reporter for MLB.com.
