Bucs can find gems in late Draft rounds
Huntington hopes to select sleepers on second or third day
ATLANTA -- Though every year, much is made about the players selected in the first round of the First-Year Player Draft, it's often in the later rounds where gems are found. As general manager Neal Huntington put it on Tuesday after making Boston College catcher Tony Sanchez the Pirates' first-round pick, "All-Stars come out of all parts of the Draft."

Bodley: Nats must be patient
You don't have to venture far to find proof of that point, as 18 players on the Pirates' 25-man roster were chosen after the third round of the Draft, which is where this Draft picks up on Wednesday. That includes the likes of Nyjer Morgan (973rd overall pick), Ian Snell (779th pick) and Andy LaRoche (1,171st overall pick).
"If you get drafted in a late round, it doesn't necessarily mean that you're not better than someone who got drafted in the first round," Snell said. "When I got drafted in the 26th round, my mom said, 'Just go out there and do your best and show them that you could have been a first-round pick.' That's what I do."
After 111 picks on Day 1 -- including Round One, Compensation Round A, Round Two, Round Three and Compensation Round B -- the Draft will resume with exclusive coverage on MLB.com with the Fourth Round at noon ET on Wednesday and will be tentatively scheduled to go through the 30th round. The Draft will conclude on Thursday with the 31st through 50th rounds, beginning at 11:30 a.m. ET.
MLB.com's coverage will include a live pick-by-pick audio stream, expert commentary and the exclusive Draft Tracker, a searchable database of every Draft-eligible player, featuring statistics, scouting reports and video highlights.
Fans will not only be able to follow along every minute of the way online, but they'll be able to interact directly with Draft-eligible players and MLB.com Draft experts, among others.
The Draft Tracker will also feature the addition of Twitter, and the participation of "tweeters" such as MLB.com Draft expert @JonathanMayoB3, who will also be serving as on-air talent for all three days of the Draft; and reporter @LisaWinstonMLB, who will be writing the up-to-the-minute coverage for MLB.com.
In addition, MLB.com has created a Twitter account devoted to the Draft, where you can stay updated on every piece of info as it becomes available (@MLBDraft).
