SEATTLE -- According to The Denver Post, the Mariners have signed former Padres third baseman Sean Burroughs to a Minor League contract worth $450,000.

He will be among the team's non-roster invitees to Spring Training.

The 26-year-old left-handed hitter was designated for assignment by the Devil Rays last June after hitting just .190 in eight games.

The son of former All-Star slugger Jeff Burroughs, Sean Burroughs is a career .280 hitter in 440 games, though his power never materialized (11 career home runs).

Burroughs was the Padres' No. 1 pick (ninth overall) in the 1998 First-Year Player Draft. He played with San Diego from 2002-05 before being traded to the Devil Rays for pitcher Dewon Brazelton.
