Report: Brocail to return to Padres
Reliever agrees to $500,000 contract with incentives
The Padres reportedly are about to bring back a member of their 2006 bullpen with the re-signing of Doug Brocail to a one-year deal.
Citing baseball sources, ESPN.com reported Saturday that the right-handed reliever has agreed to a deal for $500,000 with incentives, pending a physical exam.
Brocail, 39, went 2-2 with a 4.76 ERA in 25 appearances in 2006 after undergoing an angioplasty procedure on March 11 to clear a coronary artery that was 99 percent blocked. Brocail underwent the first of two such procedures after feeling weak during a Spring Training outing.
He returned to the field July 14. His season came to an end when he suffered a hamstring injury on Sept. 15.
