Mulder to visit Rangers on Tuesday
Two-time All-Star to see Arlington as negotiations continue
ARLINGTON -- The Rangers are serious about signing Mark Mulder, and he is serious about coming to Texas. He'll be here on Tuesday. Just as Barry Zito did last week, Mulder and his agent Gregg Clifton will visit Arlington and meet with Rangers officials. The two sides have exchanged offers and had serious discussions during the Winter Meetings this week in Florida. Mulder went 6-7 with a 7.14 ERA in 17 starts for the Cardinals last season before being shut down because of shoulder surgery. He is not expected to be ready for the start of the 2007 season. He was 88-40 with a 3.65 ERA in 155 starts between 2001-05, tying Bartolo Colon for the most victories by a Major League pitcher in that stretch. He was the Oakland Athletics' first draft pick (second overall) in the 1998 First-Year Player Draft. Zito was the Athletics' first pick (ninth overall) in 1999 and the Rangers have continued their pursuit of him to the point where they could be ready to make an official offer.
