METS 12, CARDINALS 7 at Jupiter, Fla. Thursday, March 2 Mets at the plate: A couple of the new Mets had big games. Xavier Nady racked up four base hits and six RBIs, including a grand slam, and Carlos Delgado went 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Jose Reyes and Tike Redman each tripled. Cardinals at the plate: The Cardinals made the most of their base hits. Two of their first three knocks were three-run homers, one by Yadier Molina and one by Albert Pujols. Mets on the mound: Steve Trachsel wasn't sharp, allowing four walks and four runs in an inning-plus. Mitch Wylie pitched two shutout innings for the win in relief. Billy Wagner's Mets debut went solidly; he pitched a shutout inning with one hit and one strikeout. Cardinals on the mound: Jeff Suppan was hit hard, allowing nine runs on nine base hits (four for extra bases) in 1 1/3 innings for the loss. Brad Voyles turned in a fine outing, with three strikeouts, no walks and three hits over 2 2/3 shutout frames. Grapefruit League records: Mets 1-0; Cardinals 0-1 Up next: The same two teams get together at 7:10 p.m. ET in Port St. Lucie on Friday. Chris Carpenter starts for the Cardinals against Yusaku Iriki.
