Drew Nieporent's Myriad Restaurant Group and Esca's Dave Pasternack team up with Mets and ARAMARK to expand all-star culinary roster at Citi Field03/31/2009 12:00 PM ET
FLUSHING, N.Y., March 31, 2009 - The New York Mets and ARAMARK - a world-class leader in professional services and the Mets' food and beverage provider - today announced a culinary partnership with Drew Nieporent's Myriad Restaurant Group and Esca's Dave Pasternack to join Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group at Citi Field. Nieporent, Pasternack, and Meyer will bring a menu of the celebrated restaurateurs' popular offerings to Citi Field to create an unprecedented dining experience in sports and entertainment venues.
Fans will first experience this breakthrough culinary partnership this weekend, when the Mets host the Red Sox for two exhibition games, Friday, April 3 at 6:10 p.m. and Saturday, April 4 at 1:10 p.m.
Myriad Restaurant Group, renowned for Nobu and Tribeca Grill, will consult on food and beverage services at Citi Field's Acela Club, the 350-seat restaurant on the Excelsior Level with panoramic views overlooking left field. The Acela Club includes both a multi-tiered, fully-enclosed, climate-controlled dining room and an outdoor seating patio. The dining destination will feature Contemporary American fare inspired by Myriad's acclaimed restaurants. Myriad and its chef Stephen Lewandowski have selected Michael Sobelman, previously of Tribeca Grill, as Acela Club's Executive Chef. Chefs Lewandowski and Sobelman have created a large selection of artisanal cuisine featuring local products.
Pasternack, who helped create the popular and acclaimed Esca in midtown Manhattan, will develop and oversee the new Catch of the Day fish shack, located within Citi Field's "Taste of the City" in the Field Level's outfield concourse. Catch of the Day, located just beyond the right field fence, will feature fresh and local seafood, including Pasternack's famous lobster rolls, grilled shrimp po' boy sandwiches and Long Island Clam & Corn Chowder, and will adjust the menu throughout the year to take full advantage of seasonal ingredients.
Among the dining choices Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) will offer at Citi Field are the enormously popular Blue Smoke and Shake Shack, as well as two new businesses - El Verano Taquería and Box Frites. In addition, USHG will provide all food and beverage services at Citi Field's Delta Sky360 Club, the premium seating area for 1,600 guests on the Field Level directly behind home plate.

Myriad Restaurant Group, the only restaurant group honored with three coveted Grand Awards from Wine Spectator and four prestigious Ivy Awards from Restaurants & Institutions, operates the popular and highly acclaimed New York establishments: Tribeca Grill, Corton, Nobu, Nobu Next Door, Nobu 57, Nobu London, Centrico, Mai House, and Crush Wine & Spirits.
Dave Pasternack went to culinary school at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I. before working in a number of iconic New York restaurants, including Provence, David Bouley's eponymous TriBeCa restaurant, and Terrance Brennan's groundbreaking Flatiron restaurants Prix Fixe and Steak Frites. Pasternack opened the acclaimed seafood restaurant Esca with Mario Batali and Joseph Bastianich in 2000, and received the 2004 James Beard Best Chef.
The Mets and ARAMARK in June 2007 signed a 30-year agreement for food, beverage, and retail merchandise services for Citi Field. ARAMARK - a partner with the Mets since 1995 - will be the exclusive concessionaire managing all concessions, retail stores, kiosks, luxury suites, and clubs for the 42,000-capacity ballpark.
The addition of Nieporent and Pasternack to the culinary experience at Citi Field marks an unprecedented partnership with three of the world's leading restaurateurs at the Mets' new ballpark. In July 2008, the Mets and ARAMARK announced a partnership with Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group to transport its culinary talent and expertise to Citi Field.
This past January, the Mets and ARAMARK formed a relationship with leading New York wine institution Zachys Wine & Liquor Inc. to design a world-class wine program for Citi Field's premium dining areas, including suites, lounges, and restaurants.
In September 2008, the Mets and ARAMARK launched Metropolitan Hospitality, a new joint business venture creating a year-round hospitality destination for non-gameday events at Citi Field. The more than 200,000 square feet of hospitality space accommodates corporate meetings, receptions, private parties, trade shows, weddings, and a variety of other events. Citi Field's close proximity to mass transit, New York's LaGuardia Airport, and John F. Kennedy International Airport makes it easily accessible locally and nationally.
Hospitality and culinary strategist John Sergi and his Charlotte, N.C.-based firm helped the Mets and ARAMARK develop their partnerships with Union Square Hospitality Group, Myriad Restaurant Group, Dave Pasternack, and Zachys.
