12/17/2008 7:15 PM ET
FLUSHING, N.Y. -- The Mets will preview their new home, Citi Field, in 2009 with a two-game charity exhibition series against the Red Sox on Friday, April 3 at 6:10 p.m. and Saturday, April 4 at 1:10 p.m. The Mets Foundation will donate the net proceeds from ticket sales from these games to the Police Athletic League and other area charities.

Full-season ticket holders will have both Red Sox exhibition games included in their 2009 Mets Season Ticket packages at substantially discounted prices as compared with regular season games. Single-game tickets for April 3-4 will be similarly discounted and go on sale in the weeks ahead.

The Red Sox series at Citi Field follows the Mets' 32-game Florida exhibition schedule, including their first home game on Thursday, February 26 at 1:10 p.m. when the Mets host the Marlins at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Single-game tickets for the Mets' 21st season at their Spring-training headquarters in Port St. Lucie go on sale Saturday, January 17 at 10 a.m. at Mets.com or by calling (772) 871-2115. Ticket prices for games at Tradition Field start at six dollars and remain unchanged from last year.

The Mets have six games against the Orioles (including their Grapefruit League opener on February 25) and the Nationals, five games each against the Marlins and Cardinals, four games against the Braves and three games each against the Tigers and Astros.

In addition, the Mets will play Italy's World Baseball Classic squad on Thursday, March 5 and an exhibition against the University of Michigan on Sunday, March 8 in Port St. Lucie.

The Mets will conclude their exhibition season with a game in New York for the first time since March 29, 2003 when they hosted the Orioles at Shea Stadium. The Mets begin their 2009 regular season April 6 in Cincinnati. After three games against the Reds and a weekend series in Florida, the Mets return to Citi Field for their home opener on Monday, April 13 at 7:10 p.m. vs. San Diego.
